David Roger Balek, born on September 29, 1948, in Denver, Colo., passed away April 1, 2019, at his home in Groveland, Calif.
In 1960, the Balek family relocated to Livermore, Calif., so his father could continue his education in San Jose, Calif., and became the Principal of Junction Avenue School in Livermore. David attended Junction Elementary and was the first class to graduate from Granada High School of Livermore.
David served two tours in Vietnam where he earned numerous medals as a Chief Gunnery Sergeant in the Air Cavalry.
David and his wife Christine Mitchell met in Livermore in 1978, married three months later, and were soul mates for more than for 40 years. David had a previous marriage that resulted in two wonderful daughters.
David and his wife were fortunate enough to move to Groveland, where they semi-retired and spent the last 15 years working part-time at Pine Mountain Lake, with David caring for horses at the PML Stables. He loved all animals and they loved him. His zest for life and hard-working nature was one of many reasons why he was able to connect with people, but he was a genuine, caring person as well. It wasn't only his work ethics where he shined, but his love for his family was that much more! It is so difficult to believe that "David" will not walk into the door tonight, and ask how your day was.
David is predeceased by his mother Patricia Joann Balek, and his brothers Curt and Kevin Balek.
David is survived by his wife Christine; father Harry Balek in Thailand; sisters Malee of Keizer, Ore., and Angelys Balek in Thailand; daughters Deanne (Stewart) Lenowitz in Boynton Beach, Fla., and Denie Monte (Daniel) Copperopolis, Calif.; grandchildren Shawn Alves, Sarah, and Aaron Lenowitz; and nephews Jason Wilstead, Mathew Balek, and Cory and Ryan Wilson.
Please send donations to Wounded Warriors in-lieu of flowers to Veteran's Sonora, California.
There will be a Celebration of Life: June 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. The Pine Mountain Lake Stables Equestrian 13309 Clifton Way (Off of Ferretti Rd.) Groveland, CA 95321, (209) 962-XXXX .
